The Hindu letters

At the meeting of the Board of Directors held on July 20, 2011, Siddharth Varadarajan was appointed Editor of The Hindu by a majority of 7 to 5, over the objections of N. Murali, N. Ravi, Malini Parthasarathy, Nirmala Lakshman and Nalini Krishnan. At this, N. Ravi resigned as Editor, Malini Parthasarathy as Executive Editor, Nirmala Lakshman as Joint Editor. N Murali who is the younger brother of N. 5. N.Ravi and Malini P are paying the price of indulging in blatant bias in favor of congress in the 90s and early 2000s. Since then, Ram has taken it one step further by indulging in pro Stalinist folks. This is a bitter lesson for all those who sell their characters. There will always be someone who can out do you even in nasty things.

  6. What makes me sad is the reputation that this media had over decades...I am wondering of their ancestors slogging and transferring their entire wealth of knowledge and the trust they had over their youngsters...it is extremely sad and I hope a miracle takes place to bring back the harmony and once again get HINDU the best buy back on board.

  7. The Hindu newspaper is totally Anti Hindu and it has become a Pro Communist Paper. A Few individuals cannot decide what the people have to read. IF this continues, then the newspaper will not survive

    1. I too feel that "The Hindu" is propagating abrahamic religion through its way of putting across news

  8. RAM has come into The Hindu with a particular mission of antagonising all and closing it. Gone are the days when The Hindu was appreciated for its editorials and neutrality. I do see outside hands like Murdoch and Maran in bringing The Hindu to this position. The people of Tamilnadu do not like unabashed support to communists and dictators.

  9. I feel sad how an Institution is crumbling under a megalomania. N.Ram courted Jyothi Basu, Devegowda and a whole lot of others in the hope that he would be nominated as a Rajya Sabha MP, but all of them sidelined him. If only he had become an MP, The Hindu would not have come to this misfortune. His vindictiveness has taken the toll of some very good journalists and now he is trying to decimate the organisation which has been strong because of some very professional family members, unlike many media organisations. I hope saner sense will prevail on him .... as no one is going to make him a Rajya Sabha member.

  10. Time will come for those on the top as to come down and those who are in the bottom will go up as in a giant wheel. Things will get changed shortly after a period of time. Hope for the best to happen to THE HINDU.

  11. With S.Varadarajan taking over, I discontinue my subscription to Hindu. It was tolerable to read it earlier, but now we can be assured of daily doses of Modi and BJP bashing. It will be like a print version of NDTV.
Papers like yours don't deserve any right to survive. Hope it goes down the drain and hope you all have learnt your lessons

  12. "Jealousies"? Maybe it is a valid word in scrabble, but it does not look good in the resignation letter of a Hindu editor, does it?

Also, Praveen Swami was a far better journalist than all of you, including Siddharth Varadarajan. He had to leave in despair after reporting to lesser journalists. May the Hindu RIP.

  13. Most Unfortunate..

I've been a reader of The Hindu for the past 20 years. Malini Parthasarathy and N Ravi have made outstanding contributions to the newspaper. Really sad that they are being forced out in this manner.

  14. I had worked in The Hindu for around 10 years. I had worked with both Mr. Ravi and Mr. Ram.

Let me honestly tell the public my experience with both these brothers. When Mr. Ravi was the editor never once anybody dared to interfere in the reports sent by reporters, as far as I know.He was generous and always tried to uphold the integrity of the profession of journalism.

It is true that the generosity of Mr. Ravi was misused by some of the journalists. But his leadership, I believe, is based on the policy of minimum interference and protection to the genuine journalist. None was harassed during the period.

It was the victory of the policy that though a few journalists bunked work, the majority worked to the best of their ability and the paper achieved unprecedented growth.

I don't want to waste my time commenting on Ram's leadership and professionalism. But when I worked in the paper many of my stories were killed without giving any explanation to me. If I was filing nonsense, the management should have told me that. But they kept mum. Though Mr. Ram shouts about rights of workers and communism i feel that he does not implement the same in his institution.

After I resigned and applied for an experience certificate, this man never bothered to send me even a reply. I have not received my experience certificate till date. This speaks volumes of his double standards and respect for the rights of workers

  15. Nepotism versus communism. Who should win?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Whoever wins, I am not sure I will see what I want in The Hindu - fair, balanced, non-left leaning, newspaper. However, as a habit for about 40 years now, it is so deeply ingrained that I tend to constipate if I don't have The Hindu every morning. I feel sad, though I feel The Hindu has itself to blame for the discomfiture it is in.

  17. This is Shocking to say the least. Not at all good for The Hindu nor its Readers nor the Values and Trust the esteemed daily brings with itself.

I empathize with all of you and all well wishers of the daily.

    Peace.

  18. THE HINDU is a typical pro china, anti hinduism and pro cngress and pseudo secular newspaper. It was also said, this newspaper has a financial support of spanish and swiss christian missionaries. THE HINDU, always attacks hindus, and goes soft towards missionaris to communalize and christianize india.

I strongly feel , that it would be far better to have N.ravi, rather than varadarajan. varadarajan is a hinduism hater to the core. THE HINDU has a christian communal color. This newspaper forces upon its reades the ideology of maoism. but proudly claims to be neutral.

PLEASE A BIG NO TO CHRISTIAN COMMUNAL AND HINDUISM AND INDIA HATER SIDDARTH VARADARAJAN.

  21. Hindu is surviving just because of the lack of a decent alternative. The day DNA or other paper starts publishing in other cities too, Hindu will be history and these Psycho maniacs Ram Ravi and co will have to set their shop in China/Lanka/Arabia..
Ram will love arabia... the muslim land. He will simply love the public beheadings, whipping of women etc... afterall, commies and muzzies/muslims have so much in common between them... always trying to beat each other in blood and gore. Ram! good going. Do your best to bury this shitpaper!

  23. Hindu does it again!! The world was aghast yesterday as thousands of "pious" muslims burn a mentally unstable man to death after seizing him from police custody... his crime was that he wa accused of insulting quran... The hindu, which never looses an occassion to claim "unbiased", "credible", "trustworthy" fails to report this event... Hypocrisy at its best!!
